All the Things I Am

It’s 6:30 A.M.

The sun is poking up

Breathing out another long day

With a slow and steady hum

The night is so faithful

To the early morning’s glow

But there’s a deeper, hollow quiet

To the phone calls and the snow

And if I called, would you answer now?
I want it right, but I don’t know how

The storybook way isn’t all it’s cracked up to be

And I’m still waiting for the day when I finally accept me

It’s 7:05, I turn the alarm back off

Maybe I’ll stay in today

But there’s a voice in my head saying where’s the me I used to know?

Where did that smiling boy go?

Or was he ever there at all?

But if I called, would you pick up at this hour?

Is it too early for something like a shower?

The storybook way isn’t all it’s cracked up to be

And I’m still waiting for the day when I finally accept me

Not all the things I want to be, but all the things I am
