The Deer

The deer walked out of his forest home

And he said “I am almost there”

But he wanted something else to clear his head

The sun was getting low in the sky

All he really really wanted was a nice long cry

So he made, with some fallen twigs and leaves, a bed

And you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go!

And you go and you go and you go at it alone

The deer woke up and it was still right there,

That aching empty feeling

So he said, “Maybe I just need a little talk”

Cause he surely didn’t know if he was worth a dime,

Maybe there was someone who could help this time

So with hope in the bottom of his heart he began to walk

And you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go!

And you go and you go and you go at it alone

Oh he traveled the desert, oh he traveled the plains

Oh he went through sun and rain

Asking every creature he could find for a bit of love

The owl gave him all the wisdom he could say

And the rabbit gave him some golden hay

And the deer cozied up with this newfound purpose fittin’ like a glove

And you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go!

And you go and you go and you go at it alone

So for many days, when he’d wake up cold,

The deer would find a creature to hold

And within the embrace he’d smile and close his eyes

But as much as he was trying hard to bury it down,

Behind all the love and support he had found,

The deer could never really quiet that hole inside

And you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go!

And you go and you go and you go at it alone

So on a whim, one aching day

The deer went alone on his way

And he’d cry and wish for someone to make it right

But as the days turned into nights he felt

That the only answer was the deer himself

He was him and him alone, and that was was quite alright

And you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go and you go!

And you go and you go and you go at it alone

He never went back to the desert

Or sought a savior in the plains

The deer grew old and wise all on his own

And on one of many peaceful nights,

He saw a boy on the crux of his life

And he stopped for a minute

And he looked me in the eye
