Optimist's Ode

Rehearsal went well

I got there on time

I said my lines correctly

Went on with the big ol’ lie

The sun, it was out

Cast a line through the room

There’s a smiling mask on my face

But I’m smiling too

And every day that goes by

A little more light fills the empty spaces in the trees

And everyday I try

My best to get out of this

And I’m doing fine

The city was bright

With great striking swirls

A drop of molten moonshine

Laticifying lonely pearls

And as I stood on the beach

With a true smiling friend
There’s no birthday, there’s no hat, there’s no party

There’s no beginning, there’s no end

‘Just every day that goes by

A little more light fills the empty spaces in the trees

And everyday I try

My best to get out of this

And I’m doing fine

Been told I find silver linings

But it gets rather frustrating

To not know wide eyed optimism

From eternal suffering

But with that childlike grin

I’m here in the door

It got me out of bed

Maybe it’ll get me something more

But I keep writing in my journal

Who I’m gonna be

Keep searching for an answer in the way the people talk to me

I think if I keep going on that way, I’ll lose sight of who I ought to be

I ought to be me

I ought to be me, I ought to be me

All the things I want to be

And all the things I am

(A little more light in the tower)

My pain, it ain't gonna go away
(A little more light in the tower)

I think I'm here to stay

I find faith in setting suns,

so I think I'm here to stay
